KONICHIWA!!!

it was a very interesting weekend indeed.

On Saturday I woke up went down to PC world to check out wireless routers, then went to the chinese food shop to get some condiments, and then down to morrisons for the weekly grocery shopping.

Reached home, took my bedding out ot the wash and proceeded to have lunch.
Angel my new flatmate, came back and she asked if i could walk with her to the police station so that she could interview them regarding the curfew on the beach boulevard that was to be imposed due to the continuous presence of 'Bouley Bashers' @ boy racers, who go vrooming up and down the beach boulevard.

So as we were heading out and i was reaching out to pick up my socks from the floor, i realised they were soaking wet....hmm...interesting....didn't know i had excessively sweaty feet. SO I took off my slippers and was prodding the floor with my feet and LO and BEHOLD!!!

I discovered the reason why my room has been having this musty smell.

The cupboard floor was soaking wet, and the carpet around that area too...and LO and Behold, that also explained why our kitchen floor has gone all uneven and swollen the past few days.

GEEZ... so we called up the maintenance guy and he basically became all huffy and puffy and was going on about why we were calling him only on a saturday night and that it was going to be 500 pounds damage at this rate. But anyway it's their problem. they didn't do enough checks to ensure that every was tip top and working.

but anyway, after we returned from the police post which was surprisingly not open. We were really glad to have a maintenace guy, Old man Stanley, as we call him, pop by and he did a great job of taking everything apart and discovering where the leak was coming from. a runny shower tap. and NO he was not the guy we called. And after taking everything apart he put it all back together again and cleaned up the place. how nice.

well so Liz, Dana's fren was up so we went out for dinner at this indian restaurant called KuRyu.
it was kinda pricey but the food was good but the service was SHIT!!!
They decided that it would be a good idea to clean up and take away our plates and glasses before we were even done. the shits....

Well anyway, after that we went to the Wynd for a glass of red wine and then we went to Meshulu which is a club that plays rock music. and i'm definitely not going back there...it was head splitting. the music was shit... and i personally can't stand rock or loud music so that was equally crap. though the only enjoyment i got out of the whole thing was watching obi one kinobi fighting with umbrella man on the dance floor. IT was light sabre vs umbrella.
and spiderman and phantom of the opera waltzing to bonjovi... dun even ask.

It was halloween weekend.

yeah so we were back at 3 am. and yes the clocks are no back and hour.

YAY! I gained an hour of my life yesterday!

YOZ!

Another lazy week has drawn to a close. I don't think i've done much studying or revising in the way of things.
It must be the freaking weather it has become cold and wet. come this saturday we will be setting our clocks back by and hour. It really is rather complicated at times all these set the time back and forth business. but Dana gave me a good way of remembering whether it's forward or back by and hour : '' fall BACK, spring Forward'' fall and spring related to season not the action of course.

Yesterday was a rather interesting day. had one lecture at nine, then ward rounds and then i went back later in the afternoon to clerk and examine a patient.
Well..here's an announcement to the whole world : HELP! PPLE ARE STEALING PATIENTS FROM MY ENDOCRINE AND GENERAL MEDICINE WARD!!!!

AND THat FUCKING GREEK GIRL is the PRIME CULPRIT! BITCH!!!!

WEll...so fine...yesterday me and a whole group of us from my ward group got TURNED AWAY from OUR OWN WARD! but well fine...the ARI is a huge hospital with lotsa wards
so I went to wards 49 and 50 which are general surgery wards.
and I managed to get a fine catch.

A lovely old lady who was so welcoming and open and new probably more about her medical condition and drugs than I did and was generous enough to share and explain it to me. She was lovely. And she had very interesting history as well as lovely observable stuff on examination. unfortunately i cannot elaborate more. u should know why.

I really like talking to the patients here. It's kinda funny when they address u as ' love ' or 'darling' . Makes you feel so welcomed even though u know you're being a total pain in the arse and that deep inside you know that your incessant questioning and prodding would drive yourself right up the bend if it were you lying on that bed. But they don't mind, they smile at you, joke at you and repeat whatever they've just said fifteen minutes ago to a previous batch again and again. And they don't complain. Instead they sympathise with you and whenever u apologise for being such a pain, they say that 'No, it's more difficult for you asking the questions'' some even offer you a glass of ice water.

Sometimes all this kindness makes you feel ashamed and guilty. Ashamed if you haven't revised your work well, or if you missed important details. Guilty that you have to make them recall unhappy memories of miscarriages and deaths in the family.

Guilty that you have to make them say all this and still put on a happy smile and joke and laugh with you.

SIghz... one of the little ironies in life. Thank you God for letting me meet such great pple and I earnestly pray that they will get better and live happy lives.

OHAIYO!

Filling this in during lunch break. have a lecture in 45 minutes time.
then might go for a talk on '' Getting ahead of the rest'' haha...not shy aren't they.
yeah basically it's a talkon how to build up your CV.

well lets see...over the weekend i went to church. yes! haha bet u are all sniggering right now.
yeah...went to the church called '' Assemblies of God''
it's small, cozy and friendly though i must say i'm not very used to this rather unconventional and modernesque way the service was carried out.
it was kinda ok and I managed to see some of my classmates there
but i kinda disliked the fact that they were singing modern christian songs
NOT HYMNS!!!!
Geez...I think i still prefer traditional, stodgy old catholic churches.

well that was basically me this weekend. and I introduced Dana to anime
let her watch Tactics...haha...quite funny having to explain all the cultural stuff
and mysticism behind it all. but it was ok.

oh well so that's me....nothing interesting has been going on these days...sigh....

Yoz minasan~!
Filling in this entry after quite some activity on this side.

It is Wednesday and I’m writing this entry in my room. Just returned from watching, Rebecca. This is a play based on Daphne Du Maurier’s classic masterpiece of the same name. The cast was led by charismatic actor Nigel Havers as Maxim de Winter, main character of the story. This is truly a great thriller in its own right…no wonder that it inspired Hitchcock to do a movie based on this work as well. Well…I suppose to be fair with the exception of Nigel Havers the rest of the cast was often if not always melodramatic haha…but well. It was all still well carried and presented, though I felt that more variation in terms of sets and costumes might have been a better idea.
But it was a great afternoon and me and Dana enjoyed bags of hot chips doused in salt and vinegar all the way back to the flat.
One of the great things of good ol’ Scotland, there’s always a little shop around the corner that sells great chips! Hooray!

Oh yes! Now let me tell you more about the HMT ( His Majesty’s Theatre ).
It is the oldest theatre in the entire UK apparently and it has just been reopened after 3 years of restoration and refurbishments. On the outside it may seem disappointingly modern with its glass panels and bistro but the actual stage and theatre is BEAUTIFUL!
It makes u feel as though you are in a scene from Phantom of the Opera. Chandeliers, Carved marble pillars, gilded banisters, plush carpets, thick heavy felt curtains. Takes your breath away!

Oh and the best thing was!!! Although me and Dana went for the Balcony tickets which were the cheapest tickets for the afternoon’s matinee on arrival at the theatre we were told that we had been UPGRADED to upper circle tickets!!! YAY!!! Haha…so we had a better view, at half the actual prize! The reason was that they didn’t have enough pple to fill the theatre so they upgraded us lot at the balcony! I love the way they do things here!

I foresee myself spending a lot of time at the HMT. Next thing I’m gonna watch will be the St Petersburg Ballet theatre’s production of La Bayadere and Swan Lake. YAY!
Will book my tickets soon!

Yup! And if u are wondering why in the world am I able to spend this Wednesday at the theatres….I had today off from school! Haha no school this Wednesday!! And on Monday and Tuesday I ended school at 12 noon. Hehe….tomorrow I end at 11.30 but I will be staying back and hopefully be able to clerk some patients and practice my examination skills on some of them.

Yeah…yesterday was a pretty lazy day too…man…this is bad I’m drifting into slovenly ways. Yesterday we had 3 lectures on Resuscitation and a CPC ( clinical postmortem presentations) haha….needless to say… no revision required for those. So I spent most of the afternoon watching anime and jap dramas. Then I went to sleep. Woke up at 7.30pm and decided to watch some more anime whilst eating dinner. And then Ameena from next door came over for a cup of tea together with Peter. And after that she invited me to come over to her room to view her DVD collection. And then I stayed there till ten to 12 midnight chatting and helping her and Noura with their tutorials. I think I’m going to charge them tuition fees. Haha that would be nice.

Oh yes! Housewarming last Friday was great. Had a whole lot of frens from last year and this year over. And needless to say they raided my anime collection but I got quite a bit from them too so it was fair trade. Well…I had my fair share of vodka, rum and wine so needless to say I was soon off to bed at around midnight. Haha the bewitching hour. Anyway, so I was lying in bed just about to drift off amidst the drunken laughter and music of the ongoing party and then Nic Dana’s CATHOLIC GOTH friend decided that she wasn’t getting enough attention and started a whole discussion on the why she felt the premature babies and babies born to women over the age of thirty should not live. In the case of premature babes it was because they had been rejected by their mother’s body and I forgot wat was her case for the over thirty women business. And this whole blah blah blah was carrying on right outside my room door. AARGH! I had a headache and I was tired and I just wanted to sleep. I soon drifted off to sleep when she decided to drift off and gain attention from another bunch of pple. Thank God. According to her presumable maybe 70% of us or thereabouts are the walking dead.

Hahaha….well that’s about it up till now. Hahaha….hope u guys like this extra long entry. Do pass comments and leave me msgs on the tagbox.

BTW, if u are wondering if my internet is up…it’s not. I’m typing this on word, saving it to my thumbdrive and cutting and pasting this when I get to school. Nasakenai ne atashi wa…..

Sorede…jaa!

Right everyone! End of week update!

Yesterday was a superb day.
Was in uni from 10-11.30 for clinical skills. unfortunately it was my turn to be patient
but well i was well prepared...haha...appropriately geared up and such.
after that my friend offered to give me a lift all the way back to my place which was GREAT!!
especially since it was such a hot day.

After that, I walked to Taylor Building in Old Aberdeen to update my virus check and
utilise the wireless hotspot area to update my collection of manga and anime nusic videos.
Ah...the simple pleasures of life! I can't wait for my own internet to be up and running...and then
.....sigh....hopefully, fingeres crossed that the set up and all will be perfect,
I will be able to download and update my anime and movies collection.

So after that, went home, prepared for today's ward rounds and in the evening
went to a Creative Writing Society Meeting at the Red Lion Pub.
It's the first time i've ever been for one of those meeting, under partial duress of Dana no less.
But...it was quite interesting.
Basically wat happens is that each week members submit poem, bits of short stories or novels or full length novels and on Thursday evenings at 7pm they gather and each of the
pple who have submitted stuff read their own works to the rest of the group
and after that, the rest get a chance to comment or criticise it.

i liked it because the work that was written was really interesting, and some of it impressive
and most of it macabre and weird or..outrightly hilarious....
think about a Kangaroo humping a door and fondling himself through his pouch.. haha...story about a dress up party.
but the impressive work were really cool, dark, mysterious, sombre...things i like. and
THEY ARE NOT ALL NERDS!!! hahah...and they are not outrightly depressive
though a couple of them are on medication for hyperactiveness or OPD. haha...
but it was a fun night and we had a really good chocolate cake after that.

Well then we headed back and i guess that was it!

tonight goin to hold Housewarming party....wonder what that would be like.

Jaa ne!

yoz! filling this in during the three hour break that we have today in between lectures.
yes...i personally feel that this time could be well spent giving us the lectures that we require as compared to having to wait it out and end the day at 4pm as a result of all this.

ANyway, update on the flu. seems to be clearing up. still a touch of the running nose.cough still there but clearing up. weekend was pretty bad, coughing here and there as though i had an attack of TB...quite scary actually.

been studying i suppose.but it was a really lazy weekend...started watching Witch Hunter Robin. must say that i like the stuff that's written at the end of the credits about the sunken coven and such. but must also make a note that the tinkly theme song is rather similar to the theme song of Le Portrait de Petit Cosette.
Zhu if u are reading this I strongly recommend that you watch this OVA and definitely download the music!!!! All at www.boxtorrents.com please give feedback if you decided to take up my suggestion. thanks!

and well i suppose that's what's been going on in my life. The HMS theatre in aberdeen is up and running after 3 years of refurbishings. Apparently it's the oldest playhouse in UK! Hooray! I love watching musicals and stuff like that. Going with Dana to watch Nigel Haver's Rebecca next wedenesday! haha...my freeday from school see. oh joy! And it's really cheap to watch musicals over here. 7 pounds will get u a balcony. and the best seats are just 17-20 pounds...geez u'd probably get the worst seats for that kinda money in singapore.

righty oh! see my pathogen desiminating peers hard at the books! will go hit the books as well!

Till next time... Jaa ne!

oh yah...took this from zhu's blog. I think the last time i did something like this i ended up in gryffindor. looks like i've made a turn for the better! haha!

i'm in ravenclaw!

Filling in this entry after this weeks ward teaching.
Very interesting and educational week. Very glad to be on this ward.
It's an endocrine and diabetes ward, though u dun see such endocrine specific disorders in this ward...more of a variety of different cases, different sorts of symptoms and different illness and disease, often nothing to do with the endocrine system.

but it's still all good...because we get to practice our different skills of clinical examinations and it's more interesting as compared to seeing goitre adn DM all the time.

Today was especially good, because we were mainly concentrating on the respiratory system and there happened to be a good few patients with respiratory symtoms, so some of us got to interview them. me and my partner allison had a lady with DVT. but she was nice and had a pretty interesting history and allergy.
After we had convened after clarking our patients, a consultant on the ward, brought us and a willing, nice welsh man to the day room to show us how to take history and arrive at diagnosis..it was really beneficial.

right...enough about work. Been down with the flu recently. currently i have progressed to the cough stage. really horrid. just want to get it over and done with. hopefully soon enough. so annoying man. bloody hell...more then half of the entire class is wheezing, coughing, and dribbling....in bloody respiratory distress i must say.

well that's about alli have to say...nothing much interesting goin on in my life basically been studying and reading...terrible the amount of work lah.

jaa ne!

5:41 AM

MY GOODNESSS!
I'm only going to get my phoneline set up on the 2nd of NOVEMBER!!!
that means an additional month before i get my broadband up and going.
GEEZ!

so damn annoying...

haiyah so stressed and irritated now that i can't do anything about it.

oh well...update update.

yesterday was my first ward based teaching. so nerve wrecking our supervising registrar just
gave us an overview on questioning and history taking and then sent us off
in pairs to go clerk our first patient.

Man...me and my partner were so gabrah man...
did the first cardinal boo boo of not pulling the curtains around the patient before the interview
had to be told by our supervisor..embarrassing but well thankfully our patient was a really nice lady.

yeah so we were made to present our case to the rest of the group and that was even more
nerve wrecking for the whole lot of us...coz the registrar kept on stopping each pair
asking them questions and telling them what they should have said first and stuff like that.
haha....not a bad experience for first timers like us i suppose.

yeah and then we also had clinical skills training at the clinical skills centre where we took turns
to be patients and practiced our end of bed examination. quite funny...
and yes...i think it is certainly possible that at the end of medical school u will possibly know your peers inside out. haha

next week is respiratory examination......girls down to their undies, guys bare it all.....
geez......call in sick.

tata....
