HELP! We've been 'MOLESTED' during surface anatomy class!!!!
Haha....chill.....
Well, today has been a really fun day, and surprisingly
I attribute it to a superb surface anatomy
tutorial class today.
So...surface anatomy class is basically
a class which we go to every friday during our practical
anatomy slot to study about features of the
various regions in the body which can be palpated under the skin.
REally interesting class...but...
TOday it was particularly interesting.
because we were examining....
The THORACIC region....
*naughty laughter*
Things learnt today besides knowing how to count and feel for ribs
and listen to heart beats, respiratory sounds and valve sounds during
the cardiac cycle:
Man do have BREASTS.
Exhibit A: We were learning about parietal and visceral
linings of the pleura of the lungs, so the tutor was viciously pushing
for one of the guys in my class to come forward and take
off his shirt so that we could doodle on his body.
Haha...fun aint it...
So at first the shy creatures decided that
they were uncomfortable taking off their shirts and
baring all. So we dejectedly turned to tracing and feeling ribs with our
fingers.
WEll, that was all well and good when we were tracing on our
own bodies, BUT, we had taht quirky tutor, and she
decided that we oughta feel on each other.
So of we went in pairs. Thank GOD I got a girl partner.
Some girls were unfortunate. Some guys were very fortunate.
And the guys who paired up with each other....
well, they were questionable.
BUT...the real questionable bit arrived when problems occurred in the
visualisation of the pleura, so finally
one of the guys valiantly volunteered to strip and
be drawn on.
He was truly valiant.
My goodness he had BREASTs.
True breasts. Perky, pointy ones.
We couldn't help ourselves, we all started laughing.
But he was a good sport and allowed us to manipulate
him and doodle upon him.
BUT I must admit it was rather disturbing to note
the curious, and questionable positions his male counterparts
manipulated him into when they were drawing on him.
Hmm....did they really need him to bend over, just to draw upon his back?
Hmm.......
End of lesson.

HEYZ! just filling in this blog right after my family visit.
IT went GREAT!
We got a substitute mum though because the mum that we were
supposed to have visited was suddenly 'unavailable on tuesday mornings on
tuesday morning'
But I like our substitute mum, she warmly welcomed us to her home
just after having been notified 20 minutes earlier.

And she had the loveliest little baby
called Luke
REally cute, nice and quiet and nice smelling.
Very smiley and gurgly baby.
And he fell asleep halfway through our conversation
(with his mum of course)
And boy, was he a sound, peaceful sleeper.
SO cute.
Think about little baby angels floating around in those
commercials.
I loved their house, particular their
nice plush soft leather sofas and the little hearth with an electric fire
The mum was truly open and tolerant of all our blundering questions
which was really good because we learnt lotsa stuff
which you probably couldn't have gotten from textbooks
as this was all about personal experience and feelings
Really nice.
I like it.
I think I might actually have overcomed my fear of little babies
It was really kinda funny because
this morning on the bus, me and Lyn were
discussing babies and she was
telling me that she didn't like babies
when they were in the stage where their heads were really small.
well, I agree with her,
they look fragile then.
Probably the trauma of having broken the heads barbie dolls off.
WELL, Mr Death ( my partner for this trip ) ( refer to below)
was not too bad.
I still think ( if not more than ever ) that he is a snotty nosed
arrogant prick. BUT still capable of holding a
decent conversation.
I found myself having to bring the freaking conversation back to
the mother and baby whilst he rambled on and on
about our medical course and at one point appeared to be giving her the
whole prospectus about the course. GEEZ!!!!!
sigh...
BUT it was not a disaster as I said, we had a very nice mum
and an ultra cute baby.
HOpe we get to see them next term.
GOo gooo GAh GAH...

YES! the Last test for the winter term has gone and done with
Not as superb as the first test but well I've learnt
from my mistakes and a couple of Dermatomes and bones will
be lodged in my brain and infinite memory for the rest of my life after
that Practical Anatomy Test.
I love anatomy and it kinda sucks when you make
stupid mistakes in anatomy tests but still
I hope I'll pass. I pray I will. hehehe...

WEll, but frankly speaking the BEST thing that has happened this week is the
SNOW
Yes it has been snowing for the past few days! We are one of the first few cities in the UK and Scotland to have been blessed with snow so early in the winter ( or is it autumn? No one has a clue )
I LOVE SNOW, it's just so gloriously soft and pristine and sparkly, NOthing's better than snow!
We had a snowball fight on friday night.
Me and my flatmates all having a nice good fight in the snow.
I must say I'm a natural at this game.
Running around in the snow in the night when the temperature's around 2 degrees is really exhilarating.
A bit too much as it turned out when Kate got me in the ear
with a hard lump of a snowball that was apparently ice, man
my ear was ringing for a bit.
Well, with all that adrenaline and such, I decided to get back at her.
SO I picked up this seemingly innocent looking piece of a disloged snowball and
hurled it at her. Well it was a block of ICE!
So I suppose we all can make fair conclusion on wat happened next.
She screamed, we all rushed to her, profuse apologies, profuse 'I'm ok!'
Then we headed to the common room in the central building to play pool
After 2 games, she realised she had this massive bump on her head.
Sigh....needless to say I felt guilty, so on saturday when I went shopping
for groceries I went and got her a nice big pineapple ( which she likes )
hope it soothes the contusion.
WEll, the next best thing that's happened this weekend!
On Saturday I got myself an
ELECTRIC BLANKET
mY GOODNESS! It's really superb. It keeps me nice and warm throughout the whole night and day. haha....now you know I spend most of my days in bed
well, it's the warmest place to be especially
when the fucking halls switches off the heater and radiator at 11.30pm
and switches it on again at 5.30 am. So we are all basically in deep frost between the
hours of 12 and 5.30am. After which we slowly thaw out.
And the heater goes off at 8 am and stays off till 4 pm in the afternoon.
GEEZ....what the ****!
WEll, so I'm happy with my electric blanky!
Going to go enjoy it now with my whole stack of borrowed DVDS!!!
CHEERIO!

the week so far has been good. not too bad.
The only thing that has been bad so far is the weather
gales, rain ... i love it.
It's really strange that my peers actually hate the weather
and they stare at me and go ' Are you mad?!'
Haha...maybe i am. Yeah there are times where I wished it were
warm and sunny but hey! I love the cold more.

SO let's see what has happened so far...
Monday, nothing much just had a lecture on spine
where the lecturer clearly looked as though he was taking the piss
out of having to give the lecture. haha....poor sucker
he was clearly bored just as we were, and he appeared to be lecturing to the computer instead of us...
He sat there with his head resting in his palm and lectured.
Geez....I wonder how he was even allowed to lecture in the first instance.

Tuesday;
Went to the Great Western Medical Practice for our
first tutorial for the comunity course.
Really pleased and happy to note that my community course group
which I will be stuck with for the following 2.5 years is really
funny and nice, Always a plus when you are stuck with
a group of pple for the long term.
so we basically had this discussion on health and normality
and we discussed our upcoming family visits.
geez i'm stuck with this turd.
he seems nice enough but he has got a rather arrogant english slang
and whenever he makes a diagnosis about a case study,it almost
always ends in death... hmm....wonder if that's a good professional trait.
Anyway we'll see..
So basically, next tuesday we will be chauffered to the family that
we are visiting with by our GP tutor.
It's gonna be a family who has just experienced the arrival of a new baby
so basically we will in pairs go into their homes and
have a 'wee chat' with them about the whole process and how their
lives have changed with the arrival of 'Baby'

I can't wait.
If you know me, I'm not very good with children.
When asked in a survey two weeks ago
regarding our future career paths and we
were asked to list our 3 most unlikely
career paths for me it was:
Plastic Surgery, O & G and Paediatrics.
Go figure.
Being stuck with Mr. ''Death is just around the corner and we should embrace it peacefully ''
is
NOT
going to help.
I hope it will be a good experience coz I'm truly looking
forward to it.
Honest.

HIP HIP HURRAY!!!! yayayayayayayyaY YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!

We have officially finished the BASIC SCIENCE section for PHASE 1 and FOREVER!!!
The pure utter bliss of not having to go through lectures and tutorials of
unending repetition of stuff that you have been learning continuously for the
past 4 years.....( aka o'levels and A 'levels)
Well, granted that the physiology bit of it was interesting for sure
but the bloody, urea cycles, nitrogen cycles and that whole turd load of
stuff on carbohydrates can be a real pain in the ...... wherever.

SO it all culminated in a MCQ test on friday. which wasn't too bad....
hope to score at least 80%. Passing mark is 75 % for MCQ since it's True or False
and as they say even a monkey could score 50%.
But I personnally feel that it was kinda unfair test because since it was last year's paper
some shit heads went and borrowed the paper from the seniors and basically
memorised the sequence for the test.
Talk about stupid, this test doesn't even count to the overall score.
ANd that means that they have learnt absolutely nothing but a meaningless sequence of
Ts and Fs.....
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT

On a lighter note!
I don't know if Bridget Jones 2 is out in Singapore
or not but if it is .
GO WATCH IT!
I watched it on opening night on friday after the test
My goodness....I literally laughed my
socks off.
If you think the first was funny,
this time round,
you will laugh your way to the EDGE OF REASON
After the movie I rented DVDs on ' Anger Management'
and 'Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya sisterhood'
The first one was a total waste of money, except for the few funny bits by Adam Sandler.
The second movie was superb.
I laughed, cried and watched it again.
All the way till 3 am on a friday night.
Oh another thing about friday.
It started to rain HAIL STONES at 3pm in the Afternoon
as went for my LAST basic science tutorial.
NOT a nice thing.
Having little ice stones pelting against your already raw face as
you trudge uphill is NOT GOOD!
Sigh.....it's gonna freeze over tonight.
Last night temperatures were near freezing
New thing learnt:
It is rude to say SHIT here
but FUCK is Ok....
GO FIGURE!

5th November 2004 – Guy Fawke’s Night

Today was super! It was GREAT! It was FANTABULOUS!!!!!

Today was GUY FAWKE’S DAY!

YAY!!!

To start with this afternoon we got to know our groupings for the community course that we have to do. It really made my day to know that my community course group for Phase 1 and Phase 2 does not include that awful tart of a girl and that dick head. Which is a very good thing because I’m really looking forward to all the GP visits and family visits that we are going to be doing during this course and it would be a really pity and waste if I had to spend each and every session with someone ( or some people ) who think that they know everything and are better than everyone else. Actually they’re more like the opposite. But well, I don’t care so long as they stay off my case.

So we finished the administrative bit rather quickly and so we were let off for lunch at half and hour earlier which was EXCELLENT because me and Laura had planned to go down to Jimmy Chung’s Buffet Lunch during the two hour lunch break before the cells and molecule’s tutorial at 3. So the early break was timely and well used. Stuffed myself with lotsa food. A tad bit too much I think but still….who cares!!!! Needless to say I had no use for dinner that night. Haha…except for maybe a bit of Dana’s lovely vegetarian chilli corn. Excellent stuff and it really looks like it’s beef based but it’s vegetarian stuff…hmm… anyway I don’t care so long as there’s lovely spicy food. Yumm….

So after dinner we started our 45 minute trek from hillhead to the beach. We could have taken the quicker way which was just a straight path down to the beach but well… we decided to take a deservedly more scenic and adventurous route so we went this huge semi-circle but managed to take a really nice walk along the beach to the hill where the firework’s display was to take place. We set out at around 6.30 in the evening.
Yes….in the cold autumn (winter??) evening in November. Not too wise an idea but we were all wrapped out in layers of clothes so it wasn’t too bad. And the best part was when half way through the track, all the walking and talking made us hot and sweaty so out came the layers, one after another. Haha…

So there we were, a merry gang of 7 consisting of 4 girls and 3 guys : Dana, Noura, Kate, Me, Ollie, Ian and Alan. It was really lovely walking along the beach, the fresh air, cold, refreshing gales. It was all good. It was dark all around but that made it even better and easier to see the fireworks that were going on all around us.
So we managed to reach the fireworks display site on the hill behind the Seaton Golf course at around 7.15 and basically set around on the steps lighting candles and chatting till 7.30 when the display started.

My goodness! I’ve never seen fireworks this good before. Nothing like the puny fireworks display I’ve seen during National Day in Singapore. These were like really huge, colourful and explosive fireworks. They just went on and on and on for 45 minutes. All sorts of shapes, Colours, SOUNDS ( I swear! It’s really fascinating but different types had different sounds accompanying them ). It was just superb. It was breath taking. It was
spirit elevating. I loved it.
There were so many people around, old and young, everyone had made it out on a cold night like this to view this spectacular display. It was EXCELLENT.

So after the entire display was sadly over, we made our long trek back home again.
It was great fun. We reached hill head at around 8.45pm and decided to go to the Watering Hole ( on site pub ) and have a pint or two. Dana bought us rounds and I had some bailey’s. Good stuff especially after such a cold trek. Haha….superb. Having warmed our spirits, hands and bodies with spirits, me, Kate, Dana and Noura decided to have a game of football ( soccer ) on the little soccer playing table. So it was me and Kate versus the other two, and we beat them 2 games to 1. It was good fun. Haha….Ollie came on later to team with Dana to have a final decisive game against me and Kate, needless to say we beat them shitless. HAHA!

SO after that game we went back to the flat where we had pineapple and card games. Keith came over later and we basically gave him shit for being drunk on Halloween and saying crude things to us. HAHa! So basically we made sure he did not win any card games till he had said sorry to us. HAHA!

Well, the card games are over and here I am typing this. Going to bed now. NitEZ!

9:01 AM

Okie.... so after another long day and an afternoon in the company of
dead parts, i'm here again.
Yesterday was another long day.
It was a long day because we spent most of it in lecture where
we were taught things that we did not need to know but needed to understand.
go figure...
I can't wait for the biochemistry bit of phase one to end!
And it does in a couple of weeks time!!!!
YAY!!!!

Anyway, so after class yesterday, I rushed all the way
down to the Royal Infirmary at Foresterhill to meet my Regent.
Managed to reach there on time, but spent 15 minutes
searching for Ward 45 and the ENT department.
Had to ask close to five pple, and one of the porters was actually nice
enough to show me the way to the right elevator.
It's kinda strange and stressful when someone tells you
'oh the ENT department, is on the south side of the hospital
up the slope, down the corridor, on the 1st glass door on your left,
take the lift to the 3rd floor.'
scary....
Finally made my way to the ENT department at ward 45.
Spent another 5 minutes wandering around,
before i was discovered by my regent was also wandering around
trying to find the lost sheep.
What a good first impression.
Okie background check;
Regent
Name: Mr Kim Wong Ah- See
Consultant, Head and Neck surgery
has an interest in head and neck oncology
likes cycling around aberdeen in summer
Base ward is ward 45 at royal infimary.
If he's not there he can be half way around the world,
or somewhere in the UK.
SO better time your troubles and problems to happen at the right time
i.e when he's actually in town.
Clarifications: He's not really chinese
He's father's mauritian chinese and his mum's scottish.
he's surprised that the national language of singapore is English.
at least I think it is...haha
But anyway he is a nice guy and a good regent.
And we had a nice wee chat , which was good.
Very approachable and can be funny
when he wants to be.
haha...but then again, it's kinda strange to sit opposite this
dapper and suited doctor.
not really how I remember doctor's back in singapore to be.
But then again that just makes each place unique.
haha...
Came back at 4.30pm.
Had actually woken up at 6.30 am in the morning
Because i didn't know that we had to set our clocks and watches back an hour
on the last sunday of novemeber.
GEEZ....
Anyway, returned home and was informed that we
were going to have a flat meeting with our warden regarding the recent 'events' in our flat.
REfer to bottom entry.
the accused party was initially not invited but after we decided to have
a proper meeting
she was asked down and the fucking bitch had the cheek to
say that she didn't know she was causing problm.
Can you beleive this is someone who's studying law and wants to be a criminal judge?
talk about having utterly no respect and consideration for anyone.
LEt her friends and her rot in hell.
she's going for a disciplinary meeting tonight.
I hope the wardenial committee actually do something about it
Desperate times call for desperate measures.

1:17 AM

Well, here I am again after halloween...
It was a superb party I must say, however, I think I had a rather
nasty concoction of martini with lemonade and too much Red Ice @ vodka
so I went to bed at around one....
Ah...but that doesn't mean the party ended for me at that time...
NO.....it went on and on and basically the whole flat reverberated with loud music,
chatter and laughter. Not that I really minded though because it's a party right?

What I really minded though was the being fucking
Woken up at 2.30 am on a COLD, FRIGID,
October night because some A - HOle had
purposefully smashed the glass to the fire alarm outside our door.
So the entire block was evacuated and everyone
in different degrees of costume and drunkeness
Ok...so we were let back in after the cause of the problem was noted
but was that the end?
I think not....
The troublesome flat mate, then had to kick up a whole fuss
and fly into a rage when the warden's told her
that it might have been one of her jealous friends whom she hadn't invited
or someone who was pissed at the noise who had smashed the glass.
Then...for reasons unknown that girl started fighting with her
little sister. And basically got beaten up.
I finally managed to drift off to bed at 4.00 am and
spent the rest of Sunday in a really foul mood.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
