"Attack of the S.M ( Sng Muay ) Space Encroachers" by X'HO should be on every single local or even international best seller list. It bears so much insight and clarity to the national climate and situation that it just has to be a must read of all the patriotic souls on our sandy banks. Grab it wherever you can!!!
It's nice to know that there are others out there who are observing similar trends and mannerisms as you. It's the only way you can be certain that you are in true fact not seeing things or imaginings things or....as most of us would say ( or think) being 'Overly Sensitive'. It's the kinda affirmation schizos and the other mentally disturb who share our space require. Schizos Unite!
Well...lets see. I guess the reason for this morning's discussion would be the fact that I have fallen ill again. Yes, I am SICK. SICK, TIRED, DISGUSTED and IRRITATED. Well, despite my debilitative state I am still Happy. Happy to be a Singaporean because of the many 'Liberties' that I have. I've 'just' realized that the Liberty to impose oneself on others as well as to encroach into another's personal space is a liberty that we Singaporeans are most trigger happy at utilising. Those who are still not aware of this should read the above mentioned literature. It is a work of true alacrity and lucidity. Those of you who think I'm stupid as to not have realised this since the day I was born, maybe you're right.

AFter all, I was just born a few days ago when I started reading that book.
This weekend was terrible. All the atrocities I was exposed to would have inundated the international war crimes tribunal with work to last a decade. Juz kiddin lah. Exageration is another liberty that I enjoy here.
Well, being such smart Singaporeans you should by now be able to discern what the topic of discussion will be this morning. Yes! So Clever. HEre have another A.
It is " Liberties we enjoy in Singapore. HEy! We are Democratic after all."
(*Disclaimer * This discussion is based mainly on experiences and analysis of them after the deed has been committed. I hope I don't get extradicted to Sentosa. It's a
murderously boring place.")
My...this is gonna be such a long and complicated discussion. Let's see how far I can tahan (bear) until. (*methinks* it's for the loyal readers...they have to know...the truth is out there. )
Liberty No. 1 : My right to encroach into another's personal space in every way possible, without caring about the possible consequences of my actions to my environment. ( Environment= physical and biological @ non-living and living. U know wat i'm talking about )
I must indicate at this point in the discussion that Messr X'Ho has rather extensively discussed this liberty in his book so, in order not to be sued for plagarism or anything else I have to regretfully refer you to the book (once again) to gain a more comprehensive idea of space encroachment: Singapore style ) so here's the experience...
I personally feel that the MRT system has improved by leaps and bounds. And...it's really safe these days. Methinks if you are in a hurry and you have lotsa stuff to bring with you wear something with lotsa deep pockets or have the stuff mailed to your destination, coz you wouldn't want to be deterred for maybe 10 minutes of your precious time being screened to see if you're coercing with Osama bin Ladin'. This is not my experience. Just a general comment.
Well, with the MRT being my main mode of transport these days till I get my driver's license (*Diversion* Yes, lion king girls never pass the driving test ), I use the MRT whenever I am expected somewhere. Well, lotsa pple apparently feel that the MRT is their transportation of choice as well. Now down to the crunch.
It's good to know that Singaporeans are getting closer and closer to one another and feeling a sense of unity. Physically closer and aurally closer. You know if you want to eavesdrop on someone and encroach into the private conversation space try to do it a little bit less convincingly. Commenting to your partner about what you just eavesdropped, rolling your eyes to the person you just encroached, or staring intently at your source of information are absolute NO NOs. It blows your cover man. take it from a master. But...Darn it....I forgot the last clause of liberty 1: I don't have to be responsible for the condequences. So it doesn't matter if a personal secret gets leaked out, or if total strangers know about your private life. Well, yeah so it's difficult not to hear things that are being said or discussed since we are all in such close quarters, but then again it makes a real difference whether you are purposefully listening in the intent to publicize or whether the surrounding conversations are just noise to you. Chatter heard subconciously has a lower tendency to be absorbed, thus reducing its chances of being reproduced in every other possible way.
Physical encroachment of space. I think we all know that and are guilty of that. But there's just not enough space in singapore! Well yeah, so I will make lee way for space encroachment that is non-intentional. though it's a very fine line between that and true blue , line crossing, encroachment.
Being in the MRT reminds me of the amount of oceanic conservation that needs to be done. Apparently with all this ozone layer depletion, the water bodies are being gradually evaporated at a rate which the water cycle is unable to catch up with! Why am I able to make such an 'intelligent' deduction? Because as the oceans slowly dry up there is an ever decreasing area for oceanic inhabitants, particularly JELLY FISHES. As a result, there has been an increasingly obvious phenomenom of these SPinELeSS inhabitants finding their way into MRTs and Buses!
It's unbelieveable watching such people attaching themselves onto handrails, handles etc and swaying to the rhythm of the track ( or road ). They just seem to crumple like tau kee ( bean curd skin, i tink ). If it's especially crowded, the swinging will eventually stop when they come to rest : Against some form of human support. Yah...so perhaps they are swaying due to inertia or something ( sorry, my physics not too good ) but it certainly doesn't help your case when the moving vehicle you are in has already come to rest for more time than it takes for inertia to stop being a factor for your movement, and there you are still jiggling away or resting against someone else. Please be considerate, gravity is a mighty force pulling on all of us and it isnt going to help your victims to have to support your excess luggage.
Well, next on the list for nit picking would be aural and visual space encroachment.
Aural encroachment: I am not interested in where the latest sales or best buys are. I don't want to kill the excitement and thrill of finding a good bargain.
I do not want to hear about your latest "love" interest or dis-interest. I am equally not interested in hearing your love endearments ( which sound like dialogue that I can get off TV serials ) And to top the list: I just hate having my day spoilt by some ignoramus a.k.a 'no-logic' individual who loudly proclaims their 'ingenuity' and 'smartness'.
Don't mind me but I'm totally fine with conversations and idle chit chat going on around me because I respect the fact communication binds the living world together. In my personal definition of aural encroachment: Proclamations of the
No- Nos that I specified above and any other forms of material that are proclaimed.
And just a personal note of advice to the 'ingenous and smart' pple mentioned in the last sentence above. Proclaiming your stupidness does not impress anyone on how 'clever' you are. The only thing impressive about you at that point in time is how 'brave' you are to admit how 'cracko'@ mad you are.
Oh, and those people who enjoy talking extra loudly especially when they think they are in a position to do so. I'd advise extra caution when they take a sip of their coffee or dig into their next ordered package of food. It's amazing how swiftly and silently posion kills. ( Thanks Discov channel for that special on poisons and Crime Nights!)
You know, I suppose that this is going to be a rather difficult concept to grasp, especially for all those obnoxious and arrogant infidels that surround our being but...: IF you're really great, even a whisper from you will resonate to every living ear and people will feel 'blessed' and 'honoured' to have heard that drop of wisdom from you. aka...if you're not God, don't think you are.
VIsual space encroachment: Simple. Don't stare. It's rude. It becomes sacrilegious when you stare at people who are handicapped or have some sort of physical deformity. God gave you a body, appreciate and be thankful for it and let others appreciate their own. A condescending look or worse still a look of disgust does not do any good for the frail human ego.
Well, there are many other things I could comment on regarding space encroachment but I think my blood pressure has risen high enough just recounting these incidents. Remember, these are not isolated incidents.
Peace out....lookout for future installments regarding the other liberties we have as Singaporeans ( yes...they do exist try as we may to deny their existence )
